We have missed you all!  We are so excited to be back and what a special week!  Just like last year, we are partnering with the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence (@PrichardCom) to Celebrate Family Engagement Week!

AND…we have a new way for you all to connect that we are rolling out…it is called Mighty Networks and we are very excited.  We have been hearing from our ParentCamp friends that they wanted a safe place to connect (not on social media platforms) with others who they have met at virtual and in-person ParentCamps.  We researched a lot of platforms and have settled upon Mighty Networks.  Watch the introductory video below and we hope you will join us there.  All RSVP’ing for Virtual ParentCamps will take place on Mighty Networks.  We hope you like it as much as we do!

You will need to create an account on Mighty Networks the first time you register for an event.  You should be good to go after that.

You may also want to join the Virtual ParentCamp space in Mighty Networks to stay connected to those you have met to keep conversations going.

So hear we go…

Room 1  [Strengthen] – Using AI Tools to Meet the Unique Needs of Children

Facilitator:  Brandy Broomall, CEO, Advocating for the Future, Villa Hills, Kentucky

“Envision a teenager with executive function deficits striving for independence and self-advocacy skills. How can AI-guided self-advocacy tools be developed to empower them in navigating their educational journey and beyond?” or “Picture a child with autism facing communication difficulties. How can AI-driven speech recognition and assistive communication devices be tailored to enhance their expressive abilities and foster social interaction?”

Brandy Broomall is the founder of Advocating for the Future, driven by a passion for empowering families and making a positive impact in the lives of children with special needs. As a special needs parent herself, she’s been on the special education journey and knows how tough it can be. With her knowledge and compassionate guidance, Brandy leads a team that tirelessly advocates for clients and their children, ensuring they receive the necessary resources and support for their educational journey.

Room 2 [Connect] – How to Empower Young Men to Be Positive Leaders

Facilitator:  Jay Posick (@posickj), Retired Administrator and now ParentCamp (@ParentCamp) Coach, Merton, Wisconsin

This session was a big hit at Keene Elementary School’s recent ParentCamp, so we invited Jay to facilitate it at the national level.   Let’s talk about not only how young men can be leaders, but positive leaders.

Jay is a recently retired 35 year educator, spending the last 20 years as a building administrator. Thirty-two of his thirty-five years in education were dedicated to middle school. Jay connected with Julie Pile on Twitter and Voxer while doing a book study on “Beyond the Bake Sale.” Over the years, Jay stayed connected via Twitter and Voxer and once retired, joined the ParentCamp community.

Room 3 [Connect] – Shining the Spotlight

Facilitator:  Liza Holland, Founder, Holland Management Services, Storyteller in Chief for UK Center for Next Generation Leadership and Host of Education Perspectives Podcast, Lexington, Kentucky

Communication is the key to building trust and relationships.  Join Liza in this room to share about ways that schools and families can build communication channels and also help shine a spotlight on all the positive things going on in our schools.

Liza is passionate about effective communications and education. So many experiences in work and society would benefit from intentional conversations. As such, she helps individuals and groups with effective communications in coaching, strategic planning, messaging, training, and more.  Liza is the host of Education-Perspectives podcast, which we HIGHLY recommend, we very much enjoy listening to it!

Laura and Julie even joined Liza on the Education Perspectives Podcast.

Room 4 [Connect] – More than a Parent

Facilitator:  April Draine, SBDM Minority Parent Representative, Boone County Schools (@Boone_County), Walton, Kentucky

It’s ‘apparent’ that you’re more than ‘a parent.’ Let’s chat about what makes you valuable to not just your children and family, but to our community (and even more so, valuable to YOURSELF!)

April, a passionate advocate for children and families, is a newcomer to Kentucky along with her husband and children. With a background rooted in community, education, and desire to encourage others, she’s enjoyed becoming an active participant in various  community organizations. April is currently a member of the Boone County Schools Parent Ambassador Program and is a graduate of the Commonwealth Institute for Parent Leadership class of 2023.

Ready to be a catalyst for positive change in her community, April looks forward to making more connections and seeing others reach their full potential through education and conversation.

Remember, registration now takes place through Mighty Networks!
